SSV Oliver Hazard Perry is the largest civilian Sailing School Vessel in the United States, and the first ocean-going full-rigged ship built in the U.S. in over 100 years. The 28 trainees aboard the ship are not passengers, but participants who fully share in the ship’s operation. In order to grow the program, the 501(c)(3) non-profit needed to increase financial support/donations, program sign-ups, sponsor acknowledgement and overall awareness.
SSV Oliver Hazard Perry was built to exceed all safety requirements for a vessel of her size and class. Thus, the trainee manual was designed to instill the highest level of responsibility, seamanship and sailing skills for all trainees on board.
Designing the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry training manual was the first step to reinvigorating the education-at-sea community and advance Rhode Island’s maritime heritage.
